Frequently Asked Questions
-
What if we cannot make all clinic dates?
No worries! Write us in the message box when you register your athlete for the clinic and let us know what dates they can attend. We will prorate the price for you if they are attending half or more of the total dates. If you are attending less than half of the dates you will be charged the day rate for the dates your athlete will attend.
-
What if my child has no basketball experience?
No problem! All levels are welcome! We divide our clinics into fundamental and competitive levels. Depending on the clinic, the levels may meet at different times or we will split the court into two groups, fundamental and competitive so we can focus the needs of each group.
-
Do you have a boys' program?
Currently, we do not, but have plans to build a Boys’ Clinic for summer 2026. If you have or know of U12 boy athletes that would be interested please send us a message or join our mailing list so we can keep you updated as to when we will launch our boys’ program.
-
What CYO team are you affiliated with?
We currently play for OLM/OLQM in Forest Hills, Queens during CYO season. Tryouts will be held for our competitive team 9/27 in Russell Sage Park 9-11am. If enough athletes register, those that do not make the competitive team will build out a developmental team.
-
What if my athlete doesn't make the CYO or AAU team?
Don’t worry. Every child has a place at VarCity Athletics. If there are enough athletes registered, those that do not make the competitive CYO team will build out a development CYO team.
For AAU we have two tryouts per season, one at the end of summer and the other in March before the start of the AAU tournament season. If your athlete doesn’t make one they are welcome to come to the next tryout. We also highly recommend they attend the Fall, Winter, & Spring clinics to continue building their skill to prepare for the next tryout.
You do not have to play on a competitive team to be a part of VA clinics. All levels are welcome!
-
How many tournaments will the AAU season consist of?
A typical AAU season lasts from March-September with approximately 4-6 tournaments.
-
How many players will be on the AAU team?
We accept a max of 12 players on our AAU team. We cap our team to 12 to make sure players get time on the court. More than 12 and it significantly impacts the ability for all players to get play time.
-
Are uniforms and tournament fees included in the AAU fee?
Yes. Uniforms will be provided and tournament fees are included in the AAU season fee.
-
Where does the AAU team travel?
All games for the 2025-2026 season will be in the NYC/New Jersey area.
